An American Choral Experience
The Finlandia Foundation Suomi Chapter in Bellingham Washington has endorsed this grant proposal. This local chapter is excited to support a program that connects Finnish and American musicians through inter-culturally collaborative choral music experiences and performances.
Outline of Project: An American Choral Experience is conceived to commence on/about June 28 – 30, 2018 in Helsinki. Adult men’s ensemble, mixed adult choir and/or mixed youth choirs are being considered for implementation based on a precedent of success in other countries since 2000:
1. American conductor meets and introduces American Jazz, Spirituals and Folk Songs to ensemble.
2. Finnish and American conductor collaborate on selection of literature, rehearsal schedule and performance venue concept.
3. Rehearsals take place in an historical venue in Helsinki on Thursdays and Friday afternoon & evening and all day Saturday.
4. Concert Performance occurs on Saturday night for a diverse, comprehensive audience.
5. A relationship between conductors and ensemble is established, hopefully with an opportunity for Finnish conductor to reciprocate by coming to America in summer, 2019.
